Add and verify your domain

Monitoring a domain takes three steps: make the DNS changes, activate monitoring, then wait for the first report. Each is separate: verified access proves control, activating starts monitoring, and reports bring in what receivers saw.

Add the domain

From Domains, choose Add domain, or Add your first domain on a new account. Each separately managed hostname counts as one domain: example.com and mail.example.com are two. Adding a domain does not start a trial or change your DNS.

Make the DNS changes in one visit

The domain page reads your domain's DNS and lists every record to change under DNS changes, so you edit DNS once. Each record shows:

• what it is for, in plain words;
• its name and type, with a Copy button;
• what DNS shows now: the current value, “None”, or Could not read when the lookup did not finish;
• the complete value to use, with a Copy button;
• what to do: “Create” a new record, “Update” an existing one by replacing its whole value, “Replace” a record of another type, Remove duplicate, or No change needed.

The list can include:

• Domain access: one TXT record that proves you control the domain. Choose Create the TXT record to get its value. Your email keeps flowing exactly as before.
• DMARC: your DMARC record with Mailglo's report address added. If you already have a record, your policy, your existing report recipients (in the same order) and every other setting stay; the page shows each tag as kept, added or changed, and marks the changed part of the value. Copy the whole value, not only the address.
• SPF: setup leaves SPF as it is. A missing SPF record shows Not needed now; add the record your email service gives you when you are ready.
• DKIM: one row for each selector Mailglo knows. Keys come from your email service; Mailglo never creates signing keys.
• Hosted records, if you choose them (see below).

When you have made the changes, choose I've made these changes — check now. Mailglo reads every record again and updates each row.

Mailglo also checks the domain access record automatically and verifies the domain as soon as it appears, so you can close the page and come back later. Automatic checks run every minute for the first 10 minutes, every 10 minutes for the rest of the first day, then every hour until the value expires. Mailglo asks your domain's own nameservers each time. The domain list shows the change as soon as it happens, and a Setup notification tells you the domain is verified and ready to start monitoring.

• Not found yet: your DNS provider may still be publishing the record. The values stay the same, and Mailglo keeps checking the access record. A recent change shows as soon as your nameservers have it.
• Could not read: the lookup did not finish. The record may well be there; the next check tries again.
• Value expired: an access value is valid for 72 hours. Create a new one and publish it instead.

The values stay on the page while you wait, even after you leave and come back. Replace the access value only if it was lost or shared by mistake: the old value stops working at once.

Optional: let Mailglo host records

On paid and trial plans, once access is verified, you can let Mailglo host DMARC, SPF, TLS reporting or a DKIM selector. You then point each name at Mailglo once, and change the record in Mailglo afterwards. Viewing the option changes nothing. Choosing it prepares a change for approval, and Mailglo first keeps a copy of your current settings so you can return to them. Each hosted row says “Wait” until the change is approved and Mailglo serves the hosted record; only then does it ask you to switch. A CNAME cannot share its name with other records, so a hosted DMARC CNAME replaces your DMARC TXT record in the same edit. Make the DMARC change first: hosting copies your published record exactly.

Activate monitoring

Activation counts the domain toward your plan. If there is no room, Mailglo says what to do next; activating never starts a trial or charges anything.

Wait for the first report

Receivers send reports about once a day, each covering the day before, so the first one usually arrives a day or two after they see Mailglo's address. Until then results are unknown, not passing.

Domains you manage for others

Add a client's domains from Client management. Record the client's authorization first; reports for a client domain are accepted only after authorization and verified access.
